Technical Specifications:
Each uncoated tablets contains Sulfadoxine 500mg + Pyrimethamine 25mg in a ratio of 20:1

Therapeutic class:
Sulfadoxine is a slowly eliminated ultra long acting sulphonamide that competitively inhibits dihydropteroate synthase, the enzyme responsible for the incorporation of Para amino benzoic acid in the synthesis of folic acid.

Pyrimethamine is a diaminopyrimidine that inhibits plasmodial dihydrofolate reductase, thus indirectly blocking the synthesis of parasite nucleaic acids.

Sulfadoxine and Pyrimethamine as a combination works by sequentially blocking the two enzymes involved in the biosynthesis of folinic acid in Plasmodium parasites.

Indications:

By mouth (oral)

Storage:
Store at temperatures not exceeding 25°C (77°F). Excursions permitted to 15-30°C (59-86°F).

Dispensing instructions:
Advise patient to take SP tablets after a meal and with plenty of fluids.
Advise patient to avoid excessive exposure to direct sunshine.
