General description:
Interagency Emergency Health Kit 2024 Supplementary Medicine Controlled Unit.
Intended use:
The IEHK 2024 is primarily designed to address the critical health needs of populations affected by emergencies. It focuses on situations where access to essential medicines, supplies, and services has been hindered or compromised due to an emergency event. The kit is designed primarily for “life-saving” purposes.
The IEHK is a standardized emergency kit, designed for worldwide use, prepacked and kept ready for immediate dispatch. Some of the medicines, medical devices and equipment contained in the IEHK may not be appropriate for all cultures and countries or every kind of emergency. It is not designed for health conditions requiring continued care or to substitute for normal health products supply chain mechanisms. The kits are neither designed nor recommended for re-supplying existing equipment, supplies and drugs in health-care facilities.
Target Population and period of use:
The Supplementary Medicine Controlled Unit contains controlled medicines (narcotic and psychotropic substances) required for an outreach population of 10,000 people for a period of three (3) months.
This unit is a part of the complete IEHK 2024.
The IEHK is composed of two modules: a basic module and an additional supplementary module. The complete kit includes 10 basic modules (10 x 1 ,000 = 10,000) and 1 supplementary module (1 x 10,000).
Level of care:
This Unit contains products appropriate for use, services and staffing at hospital. It includes medicines and other supplies that correspond generally to the level and training of physicians, nurses and other staff with specialized training.
Note: Services level definitions can vary across countries and planners should be aware of the level of service appropriate for IEHK modules.
Important:
As this unit contains narcotics/psychotropics, it remains under strict importation rules. Countries ordering this Unit must verify the requirements for the importation of controlled medicines with their national authorities. Any Import permit needs to be issues by the requestor country and UNICEF Supply Division will complete the "Notation Form for Emergency Supplies of Controlled Substances" and forward it to the DMA (Danish Medicines Agency).
