LTA Guidance Note - water quality test kits mapping

Portable and rugged water quality test kit intended to be used on site.

Kit can test water for total and thermotolerant coliform bacteria, using membrane filtration technique standard method, as well as turbidity, pH, conductivity, temperature and chlorine.

CONSUMABLES ARE NOT INCLUDED WITH THE KIT AND MUST BE ORDERED SEPARATELY.

Kit includes all equipment and accessories to conduct a minimum of 20 bacteriological tests at the same time.

Those are (but not limited to):

- an incubator with adjustable temperature to measure either total coliform or thermotolerant coliform. Kit includes an easy method for user to check the incubator temperature.

- an internal battery (non-spillable lead/acid) with sufficient capacity to power the incubator for at least one test cycle. Kit includes a low battery indication. When kit is directly plugged into a power socket, battery ensures uninterrupted incubation in case of grid power failure.

- a complete filtration assembly, adequate for use with standard 47mm diameter membrane filter.

- a vacuum pump.

- at least 20 reusable petri dishes.

- containers for storage of bacteria growth medium.

- container for storage of methanol.

- battery charger/mains power unit, which can be plugged to 110/220V mains and 12V vehicle battery or dashboard cigarette lighter.

- set of adapters to connect to various electrical outlets (type C or E/F; type D; type G)
- at least 1 pair of tweezers.

- a set of dropping pipette (or similar accessory) to dispense the culture medium.
- an absorbent pad dispenser

Kit also includes the following equipment to test for physical and chemical parameters:

- turbidity tube (coming in two parts) with bottom mark and graduation starting from 5 turbidity units (TU), or less, and up to 500 TU.

- (free residual/total/combined) chlorine visual comparator covering the range from 0.1 to 3.0 mg/l, with closer reading intervals (better accuracy) from 0.1 to 1.0 mg/l; combined with a pH visual comparator covering the range from 6.8 to 8.2 with equal reading intervals.

- compact, handheld and waterproof (IP67) digital meter to measure conductivity and temperature. Meter is pre-calibrated with automatic temperature compensation. Range: 0 to 20 mS/cm, 0 to 50 degrees Celsius; accuracy ±3% full scale; resolution: 0.01 mS/cm. Meter includes user replaceable batteries and replaceable sensor. Meter is supplied with calibration standard solution.

Kit, including all accessories, fits in a robust carrying case with easy access and appropriate and protective holding arrangements.

User manual with clear instructions on how to use, maintain, store and troubleshoot the equipment is available at least in English and French.
