The kit is robust, portable, and capable of analyzing on-site, designed to test water quality at the source.

This advanced, portable field test kit contains a Dual Incubator, a Photometer, and Digital Meters together with relevant consumables for 200-250 tests.
The Portable field water laboratory is composed of the following, integrated in a carrying case:

Microbiological Parameters:
Portable double/twin Incubator(44°C and 37°C), each compartment able to be operated simultaneously and separately for the incubation at either 37°C for the analysis of Total Coliform or 44°C for Faecal Coliform.

Each compartment can accommodate approximately between 16 and 25 slim fit Aluminum Petri dishes (minimum 16), supplied with a total of around 50 re-useable Aluminium Petri Dishes which are as standard in Petri Dish Racks or equivalent for easy compartment loading.

The temperatures are preferably displayed on a LCD with an indication for low battery. The incubator has a timer facility that logs the incubation period in case of power failure.

The incubator can be run from internal rechargeable battery,
110/220 V mains or 12 V DC supply such as vehicle battery/ Dash-board Cigarette lighter. The Battery may be separate from the incubator for easy replacement, but to be stored inside the carrying case
If the mains supply fails the internal battery automatically switches on. Supplied with all necessary electrical leads & crocodile dips etc.
The battery is capable of running minimum 5 incubation cycles between recharges, and be fully recharged within 2 days.
Solar power packs might be available for recharging the internal battery (not included, to be dealt with as separate option if required).

The incubator kit includes a membrane filtration unit using 0.45 um pore size membrane filter (as appropriate complete with Collection Flask, Sampling Cup and Land Line plus Bronze Disc, Gaskets and O-Rings, as well as a Vacuum Pump preferably with pistol grip, etc.), a set of accessories for the proper handling of the tests such as a pad dispenser, tweezers, dropping pipettes, plastic bottles, hand lens, lighter, pen, screwdriver, lubrication grease, a spirit thermometer (-10 to +50ºC x 0.5ºC) etc.

The incubator is supplied with sufficient membranes, pads and media to carry out 200 tests (see below).

Physico-Chemical Parameters:
The laboratory kit also comprises the following items:

Digital Turbidity Meter, measuring Range 0 - 1000 NTU. Resolution x 0.01/0.1/1.0 NTU. Automatic range selection. Automatic calibration. Infrared light source

Digital, Conductivity / TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) Meter with automatic temperature compensation and internal calibration.
Range (0 to 9990 uS/cm minimum). Resolution 0.1, 1 uS/cm, 0.01 mS/cm or equivalent. Accuracy ±1 % full scale or better.
Operating temperature (0 to 50ºC minimum).

Digital, (pH/mV/°C) Meter, buffer calibrated (pH 4, 7, and 10), with ATC.
Range (pH 0 to 14 minimum). Operating temperature (0 to 50ºC minimum). Accuracy ±0.1 pH unit. Supplied with a pH / Temperature probe.

NOTE: These Digital, battery operated meters are of portable, light weight and compact hand held types. They are waterproof to IP67, having a large display, and may be either with cable connected sensors or if compact Tester type with integrated but replaceable cup type sensors. They may be single parameter or combined multiparameter instruments. The Meters are supplied with all relevant buffer/calibration solutions/standards, sample cuvettes etc. as appropriate.

The kit is also supplied with a Photometer; using an integral colorimeter with built-in colour filters. The Photometer is a direct reading single-beam colorimeter for the analysis of the chemical water quality parameters. It features over 80 pre-programmed test calibrations. Waterproof to IP67 and fully portable, the instrument is battery powered by 3 x AA Batteries.

The Photometer provides direct-reading of test results in mg/l or molar units (mmol/l or micr-mol/l).
Readout also available in %T and Absorbance.
Automatic wavelength selection by test program.
Wavelength Range is approximately 430 - 670nm with operating wavelengths of 450 nm, 500 nm, 550 nm, 570 nm, 600 nm and 650 nm via built-in filters.

The photometer can test more than 40 different parameters using the appropriate reagents. At the exception of the further below mentioned standard reagents which are included with the kit, the following list of parameter capacities are mentioned for information and should potentially be subject to specific additional ordering of reagents: (to be selected and ordered in addition, i.e. not included as standard in this kit):

- The Incubator is supplied with Consumables for at least 200 Microbiological tests (Gridded Membrane filters and growth Pads, Pad dispenser and culture medium 38.1g Membrane Lauryl Sulphate Broth tube).
- The Digital Meters are supplied with relevant electrodes/sensors, buffer and calibration solutions/standards, sample cuvettes etc. as appropriate.
- The Photometer is supplied with following reagents for carrying out 200 Tests each:
Chlorine (Free DPD1, Combined/Total DPD3 & Total DPD4),
Nitrate, Nitrite and Ammonia.

All comes complete with full Operating Instructions and Water Quality Report Sheets within the kit. Languages will be in English/French and as appropriate for the receiving countries.

All the above laboratory components are housed in one or potentially two protective, robust, rigid, durable, lightweight, hinged and lockable Polypropylene (or equivalent sturdy e.g. Aluminum material) Carrying Case with handle. The case shall be conceived with water proof materials and to be water proof when positioned normally on a wet ground.
A separate, appropriately designed and waterproof rucksack/case may be included for carrying reagents pack etc.

Instructions for use
The following items which are not included in the package must be provided to start the microbiological tests:
Pressure cooker or portable sterilizer or access to an autoclave (e.g. in a nearby hospital or laboratory).
Methanol (at least 1-2 ml. per test)
Distilled water
Measuring cylinder or a beaker
